Baptist Health South Florida – Miami Cancer Institute Proton Therapy Center

Project Location: Miami, Florida

Baptist Health Miami Cancer Institute is home to South Florida’s first proton therapy center, and the only cancer center worldwide that offers all the latest radiation therapy technologies in one comprehensive cancer center building.

Since 2017, Baptist Health has treated over 2,500 patients with Intensity Modulated Proton Therapy (IMPT). This was the first proton center in the United States to pair the latest-generation proton delivery platform with pencil beam scanning (PBS).

Late in the design process, Baptist Health decided to add proton therapy to the radiation oncology program of a new building already underway by ZGF Architects. In collaboration with ZGF and local firm MGE Architects, the proton center was designed to occupy 40,000 square feet on the first floor of the new 4-story, 450,000 SF comprehensive cancer center.

Work previously completed by John Jessen as Principal Architect with Architect-of-Record VOA Associates (now Stantec).
