The University of Alabama Proton Therapy Center opened in 2020. The new 30,000 square foot center is a partnership between the University of Alabama at Birmingham and Proton International.

The project consists of a single Varian ProBeam compact gantry in a 2-story building on the UAB campus several blocks from the main hospital.

Work previously completed by John Jessen as Principal Architect with Architect-of-Record VOA Associates (now Stantec).

Full Service Design

We design proton therapy centers that seamlessly integrate hundred-ton particle accelerators with 14-foot concrete shielding, creating healing environments for patients and efficient workflows for staff.

John Jessen, AIA has over 40 years of experience helping people execute proton therapy projects worldwide. In 1994, he started and ran VOA (now Stantec) Proton Therapy Practice in Washington DC, and over the decades he built the largest proton design team in the world.
